Obituary of Elizabeth J. Cocco
Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Cocco (Gorman) 90, of Ocean City NJ, formerly of NE Philadelphia, died peacefully in her sleep at home. Born June 22,1931 to Edward and Elizabeth Gorman in Philadelphia. Betty graduated Little Flower High School. As a child Betty spent many wonderful summers in LBI and later Ocean City NJ. She loved the Jersey Shore and her Irish heritage.
Betty married Albert Cocco on April 7, 1956 where they went on to have 3 children. She worked for the Philadelphia Board of Education before retiring to Ocean City in 1987. Betty enjoyed the beach, walking the boardwalk and working out (Tai Chi). Being an avid Philadelphia sports fan, Betty could always give an update on her favorites, the Phillies and 76ers.
Her greatest joys in her life were her children, her 4 grandsons and 2 great grandsons.
She is survived by her three children: Michael and Kevin Cocco, Megan (Kevin)
Murphy. Her grandson’s Owen (Lauren) Murphy, Patrick (Franny) Cocco, Nicholas
(Sarah) Cocco and Colin Murphy. Great grandsons Charlie and Jack Cocco, her sister in-laws Jeanne Gorman, Jean Cocco and Mary Kay (Ed) Hildebrant, brother in-law John McDonald and many nieces and nephews.
Betty is predeceased by her husband Albert Cocco, her brother Edward (Corky) Gorman, brother in-laws Anthony and Winfield Cocco and Sister In-law Jane
McDonald.
Her Memorial Mass will be offered Monday, May 2nd at 11 o’clock from St. Augustine’s RC Church of St. Damien Parish, 13th Street at Wesley Avenue, Ocean City, NJ where friends may call from ten o’clock until the time of mass.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
